Discussion:
Truck starts, then dies immediately

I start the truck and it dies as soon as I move the keyswitch back to run. If I keep the switch in start, it will run (and accelerate). It seems to be losing fuel when it's not in start. Where do I go from here? S/N is 80025 if that helps

Just an fyi that signal wire is shielded and if you crimp the shielding the struck will not start like before.

And just in case you ever need to replace the connector and wiring, a replacement pigtail kit can be obtained from Toyota under the part number below.

Ok. I went back today and guess what.. Broken wire at cylindrical plug adjacent to distributor. Crimped female spade terminals on wires and it works fine. Thank you all for your help.

That makes perfect sense. I will look into that. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Check the wiring that leads to the distributor to see if it has a broken tachometer signal wire.
We had one of these same 7F models that did this and a broken tach signal wire about 12 inches back from the distributor was the problem.
Apparently the 7F models are wired to be able to run without a tach signal in the cranking mode only, but will die immediately when the key is returned to run mode and a tach signal is absent.

I was thinking that, too. But when the key is in run the dash lights illuminate. That leads me to believe the key switch is ok. Also, there is a solenoid on top of the regulator with a black wire and a black/blue wire. If I apply 12 volts to the black and blue wire, the truck will run.

if it was me, I think I would start with a meter on the 'run' position of the key switch, and if it had battery voltage in the right spots, I would then use the meter on the LPG relay...

"it's not rocket surgery"
The LPG relay is behind the sheet metal behind the left step. Does this truck say ECS on the engine valve cover? If so- I would suspect the distributor needs replacing.

Customers love technology- until they have to pay to fix it!
It is an lpg truck. Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with Toyota lift trucks. Where is the lpg relay located? And is there anything else I should check?
