Discussion:
Transmissions in Indian fork lifts

Hello all. I am a masters student in engineering as a part of my assignment, I would have to envisage material handling equipment status in India. Could anyone enlighten me on the major transmission suppliers for forklift segments in Indian market. Are the transmissions generally manufactured indigeniously by the fork lift manufacturer or are they bough from external transmission suppliers. The latter being the case could you also throw some light on major global transmission players in Indian fork lift segments (eg Allison, Dana Spicer etc).
Thanks

Godrej is the only manufacturer in india who has got inhouse transmission manufacturing facilities.
There are lot many other imported forklift suppliers in india for Mitsubishi, Nichiyu, Dalian etc. but these are not able to get there presence felt because of poor customer reach and after sales service.

Escorts Daewoo do not manufacture forklifts in India, they are all imported in from Daewoo Korea. There are many other imported manufacturers who are making their presence felt in the India Market, such as Mitsubishi, Nichiyu, Dalian to name a few.

1. The main forklift manufacturers in India are Godrej, Voltas, Swaraj, McNeil and Jost. But there are many Distributors in India who import foreign forklifts and supply spares and services from here. Infact we are importers for Nichiyu Forklifts of Japan for the past year or so, Nichiyu only makes electric Forklifts and we have already sold about 30 forklifts with in the past eight months and there are many inquiries in the pipe line.
2. It is very difficult to give you exact figures, although figures are available which are mere assumptions.
3. Many forklift manufacturers use modified old type transmission systems. Godrej was first in collabration with Clark and Voltas with Yale.

You are right that as far as small forklift trucks are concerned GODREJ & VOLTAS are the major manufacturers. besides that ESCORTS Daewoo is also catching up on the market share now. For you to have the correct technical info, please let me know what capacity of FLT you are interested in.

Thanks for your offer pf help, I really would be needing it. Could i ask u a few questions now?
1) I have a few info on the major fork lift manufacturers in India namely godrej, voltas, mcneill, Swaraj, Escort Daewoo... is that all or are there any more ?
2) Could you enlighten me on the current and predicted forklift market in India please? (preferably per forklift segment)
3)Amongst the list of manufactureres would you know, what transmissions they use for their forklifts? indigenious or imported? Mcneill emailed me that they use graziano... would u know for the others?

Thats too much of a questioning, I am sorry but on the net I am unable to find good info. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks once again. could u give me ur email id again? it was removed by the forum administrator
