Can you check the wires that are near the sparkplugs.
I know the European 4Y engines had a wire problem, there is a connector taped in which had a broken black wire, there should be 2 wires together in a 2way connector.
I am having the same issue, replaced the distributor assembly and still getting this 18-2 code. New battery also, not luck. I noticed there is no spark at the plugs, then sometimes there is, it is odd and intermittent behavior. What am I missing??
I know this comment was a long time ago, But I'd like to know what happened with it? Did you just replace the entire distributor assembly and of course the cam sensor is built into that and it fixed it?
Try checking the cam angle sensor. It is in the distributor. I am assuming it does not start.
