Toyoto did try as they were selling Samsung in SA
Hyster have reported that there new Reach stacker is 23% more fuel efficient than a competitor truck in a terminal in Europe. the main point of what would have been left out is the the reach stackers they were up against would have been older versions.
if they were to go up against a new reach stacker from a competitor with a tier iiii interim engine and load sensing hydraulics how would it compare
It looks like if you can have a simple truck with basic technology that is not complicated the market will take them. It seems most of the technology is in the fly by wire systems in the cab area. Is this really needed some might say yes and others might say no.
The other area's such as engine emissions is now law so it can't be taken off the trucks so that bit has to stay. Apple made a good computer with basic inside but yet they lead the world in innovation so you don't have to have all the new tech to be innovative
If you check out their website, it states that it's a light to medium duty unit- the same as the Crown website says. Looks like they're going to lowball this truck to make sales. Maybe they're getting the message that to much technology on forklifts isn't needed.
Why do we go to this stage when we already had machines that worked well the old XL/XM
NACCO is now selling UTILEV in select markets in North America. Those dealers authorized to sell the truck are those who have signed the latest dealer agreement with NACCO. Several Hyster dealers are dragging their feet. Who knows in a few months it may go the way of the Edsel.
UTILEV a price, share driven truck with a limited warranty....half a step above a used truck. Dealers are reluctant to promote whenever NACCO releases it in the US market.
Yotamaster... I introduce you to the real world. Maybe Toyota hasn't built a low dollar truck, but in order to sell the Toyota brand in this area, they definately lowballed prices. The prices were so low, the factory prices were slashed for the dealer to make a profit. Nissan did it in this area about 20 years ago and landed quite a few sales. The torture is, neither of them offer the service. And in tough applications, they just don't hold up. Which is best, we all have our opinions, but if I don't think the brand my company sells is best, I need to change jobs.
what will be interesting is that Hyster have done a deal with Tractors India for them to manufacture large forklift over 8,000kg under license in India for the Indian market. how long will it before these trucks start to enter other markets
If you look on the UTILEV website and click on Americas you will see that it states The UTILEV range will soon be available in territories across North and South America.

Maybe I missed something in the announcement but the "low cost - no frills" Utilev line is being introduced into the Latin American market which means primarily pneumatic tire lifts - 5 to 6K.
I would agree with Chuck S's comments. Everyone has dropped their prices over last few years including Yale and Hyster. I have had experience working with both Yale and Hyster and can attest to this. The issue of launching private labeling a cheaper forklift would appear to be an attempt by NMHG to reposition the Yale and Hyster brands as higher value trucks. The other NMHG strategy of combining Yale and Hyster dealerships is most likely to allow them to position Yale as the "Warehouse Products Company" (to compete with Raymond and Crown) and Hyster as the Class IV, V and some Class I Producer (to compete with Toyota, CAT, Nissan etc.). This has been something that they wanted to do years ago but could not convince the Yale and Hyster dealer groups to give up any products that they already had. With one dealer selling both brands that becomes a moot point.
Others such as Toyota/Raymond have chosen to share product on a limited basis but to keep some product differences in spec and performance different such as in the Class I and II products.
We as an industry need to better train our salespeople and most importantly our sales managers to start selling value again and not just low price. We did this successfully some years ago but have allowed ourselves (OEM's, dealers etc) to continue to revert back to discounting our products and services. It takes discipline as well as good planning to do this but if we do the entire industry will benefit.
None of this is rumor, this thread is talking about the Utilev line now being make by nacco. Check it out for yourself at there website or they are showing at modex. As far as complaining about the low end bottom feeders selling price, every OEM has that egg on their face. Everyone has sold trucks at crazy prices sell the razor and make it up on the blades thinking.
Do any of you work for a Hyster or Yale dealership? Maybe not! Toy #1 in the world, in my market they sell 5,000 lbs loaded for $23,000.00 Yep you seen it right $23,000.00 thats cheap, but like I tell people wait untill you need a part!
Without wasting my time 90% of the rumors in this thread are not true and do not take place.
Yes there is a lessor brand being offered, this is for the guy who wants new, simple and cheap.
This has all started from other dumb dealers low end bottom feaders who only sell (price) like the Toy dealer in my market.
Been selling for 14 years now, just when I thought I heard it all I read this trash. Give me a break!!!
Hyster and Yale have killed each other.
