Toyota 7FGCU25:
drifting steering

I have a customer with a 7FGCU25 with drifting steering. Intermittently, the steering will not respond to the steering wheel movement. Swapped orbital and hyd pump with good known, problem still happens. Any ideas?

Yup, mrfixit is probably right. Disconnect both hydraulic lines to cylinder and plug lines. Jack up rear end and move steer axle each way to empty fluid. Force compressed air into one fitting on cylinder and if you feel air flow through other fitting without axle moving, you're bypassing fluid through the center seal.

Ain't nothing I can't fix but a broken heart and the break of day!
The seal in the center of the steer cylinder is the problem. When worn out, it leaks-by fluid, especially when just going straight and not pressurizing it.
