Join The Kitchen Table Mingle

From kitchen tables with squealing children, or isolated at the home PC with a jam toast, we are starting 'The Kitchen Table Mingle', a new blog that attempts to keep Forkliftaction members connected, break isolation, have a bit of fun and maintain business momentum. Many of us know each other as peers, friends and associates and now is the time to celebrate these bonds and keep each other sane throughout isolation and tough times. Post jokes, tips, tricks and hacks to have a bit of fun and help us negotiate this new terrain. Got photos or YouTube videos of your modified work station? Email them to 'ktm at forkliftaction dot com' or post on LinkedIn or Twitter with hashtag #KitchenTableMingle
We are looking out for your posts!

Fantastic idea!

Here's another idea for all the little cousins in my family we are putting together an 'Easter Hat Parade'. All the kids will make a special Easter hat or bonnet then we'll skype so they can show them off. I've heard of people putting together family talent shows as well.

Had some fun this weekend. My son-in law set up the first trial of "The Saturday Night Quiz". We were invited to join on Skype at 4:30pm. The instructions were;
1. You will need pen and paper
2. a team name
3. The game will cover all topics including general ignorance and there will be opportunity to "lose your dignity"
4. if you are late or nude you lose 5 points
5. There is no prize money.
We had a great time...4 teams...losing your dignity could be having to sing, do a dance etc

Result I lost by a long way..but it was a wonderful time with family aged from 3 to 71 and questions to suit...so the kids cleaned up on cartoon questions.
It's a good idea...let us know how you go with your family next week.

..I have been working from home for years and love it. The thing I find crazy is that now I have to stay at home, it's really quite different...strange.

'We are all pondering about the effects this new reality of mass isolation and business closures will bring about for our industry... In the past hours someone has written a set of detailed predictions.... This topic may be too serious for some of us (and for this discussion), but others may enjoy reflecting on the future...
For those, join this conversation: https://www.forkliftaction.com/forum/thread.aspx?trid=29426

Mechanics however may not have time yet to sit back and reflect... they are working on ways to keep their business going, finding ways to adhere to sometimes complex social distancing rules... Let us know how you keep your workshop open in this existing conversation: https://www.forkliftaction.com/forum/thread.aspx?trid=29568

And everyone, else, tell us your best joke, send us a link to your video, photo posted in your social media. And when posting these, don't forget to add the hashtag #KitchenTableMingle

As an online team we at FLA already spend quite a bit of time working in our home offices, using email, sms and phone channels to communicate with each other. But twice every week we meet at the office for work get-togethers, 'work-togethers' and meetings. Last week we made the decision to move our full business operation online: time to isolate ourselves... because we can! Well, we thought we could! Our first meetings last week were fairly painful events: we tried Skype, Zoom and Whatsapp. For the first meeting we settled on Skype because in that group of people that was the easiest choice. We experienced delays to get everyone connected, then we had some sound problems because some of us had their mic too close to speakers, and then we quickly had to learn techniques to avoid speaking across each other,... a few hiccups and lots of extra time!
Yesterday's Sales meeting was much smoother (practice!) This meeting ran on Whatsapp through a group video chat. This is what our meeting looked like: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6649187379703762944/ , very FACE-TO-FACES !
How are you coping with online meetings? What is your favourite virtual meeting app/platform? Post it here!
