Discussion:
Stage V engine changes

When are we going to see manufacturers update their small IC trucks with 56-130kw engines to meet Euro Stage V engine regulations? No one has released any information yet as far as I can see, apart from Hyster who are using a Kubota 2.4L with DPF. But when will they no longer be able to see trucks with the current engines?

Toyota are going to be using the old and reliable Diesel engine on the Smaller Trucks with a modified FIP. The lager trucks will either use the the Commom Rail motor with 3 or 4 Cylinders.

Linde look like they will use the Deutz 2.2L 3 cylinder tier V engine in there new 2.5 - 3.5 truck. Most manufactures in the range under 5,000kg might now look at electric powered trucks and drop IC engine trucks all together

It should be interesting to see how the Chinese manufactures deal with the issue. There is also changes LPG forklifts. But i think the addition of catalyst converter is all that is required along with some changes to fuel system. But again there is very little info available.

Yes I have heard others are going this. Also heard this morning that Toyota are changing to the new DPF/turbo charged engine in all their trucks imminently, with a very substantial price increase also.

I have heard hyster will be dropping small diesel trucks. And only offering 2500kg up. Which i guess makes sense. Trying to squeeze and diesel engine with DPF etc. into a 1500kg truck would be difficult and result in more heat etc.

Fact of the week
In March 2002, identical twins in Finland died on the same day in similar accidents within hours of each other. A 70-year-old man was killed by a truck while cycling; hours later, his twin brother was killed by a truck on the same road, about a mile away, before the family had been informed of the first accident.
