Hyster A25X:
Started then dies

Friend has early 50's A25X. Original problem was it would run at an idle but die when was given throttle. Then just quit running all together. This was in 2016, I replaced the vaporizer and rebuilt the mixer and was able to get it back to where it would run at idle and then die when given throttle. Due to health issues on mine and his parts both we have just now started working on it again. So I came back to work on it to find that at some point in the time off someone changed the spark plug wire position. Remedied that and now it will start run a few seconds at a very low RPM then die. Can hold the throttle wide open when starting and it will start about the same and slowly start to pick up rpm then just fade back out. Have a full tank of fuel, I have liquid propane to the vaporizer. I did hit the button on the vaporizer while it is running and it dies instantly which tells me it probably isn't a fuel issue. I did change the spark plugs, dist cap, rotor, points and condenser. It a cast flat head 4 cylinder engine.

The mixer is a CA100, the vaporizer I can't remember off the top of my head but it was the direct replacement. It does act like it runs out of fuel but if I hit the button on the vaporizer at any point before it dies it dies instantly. That leads me to believe that it's not a lack of fuel issue. I can't find any timing marks to use a timing light with. I have set the timing to the point of best results. As far as the compression it's between 116-125 across all cylinders. I've read several instances where the filter or the fuel lock out could be partially plugged or shutting down. I haven't found an external filter or inline for that matter. I am going to bypass the fuel lockout to make sure that's not an issue.

well you do have an ancient piece of equipment there, you'll be very lucky if you find anyone that has any information on that thing :o)
From your description it would either have a continental F162 engine or possibly a Waukesha FC260A and FL260A. There should be a tag on the side of the engine or a stamp.
In either case the LP system would have most likely been the same on either engine.
From your description it sounds like it is starving for fuel or possibly getting too much fuel, the latter indication you would smell rich fuel around the engine if this is the case.

First thing i would do is run a compression test on the cylinders.
If compression is suitable then i would then turn to the adjustments on the mixer.
There should be 2 adjustments on the mixer for coarse fuel intake and also Air mixing.
Are there any markings on the mixer? a mfg name or a model number or something?
Like century or impco? Model 50? 100?
