The forklift is a 2001 and when I try to operate any of the lift/tilt/side shift, the lift pump relay will turn on and turn off immediately. I have removed the rear cover and manually depressed the relay to close the circuit and by doing that, the lift pump will stay on for as long as I push down on the relay. The relay gets 36v on both contacts to the coil. When I manually ground the relay (ground triggered relay), the relay will depress and make contact to spin the lift pump until I remove the ground (indicating good relay). I believe the relay is not getting ground which is provided by the forklift drive module.
This is what I figured - the module is not providing a continuous ground for the duration when the lever to the lift is being pulled.
What I don't know is if the drive module requires a signal from other parts of the forklift in order for it to provide a ground to the lift pump relay or the drive module requires replacement (part number 8504802 Yale and Hyster use the same part).
The forklift will drive forward and reverse without problems. The power steering pump is a separate pump and works.
Any help will be highly appreciated as I do not want to buy a drive module to find out it is something else that is broken.

Hi,
Did you figured out what was causing the problem? I'm having the same issue with the lift pump. Not sure if the problem is the Curtis 1243 controller or if there is any other component shutting the system down. Both Curtis 1243 controllers flash the code 12 which means hardware failsafe fault.
if u have steering then you have hydraulics, there is only 1 hydraulic pump and steering is priority 1 then lift then tilt then sideshift some units have a card where the hydraulic controls are and this sends the signal to the pump controller, i would suspect the card is faulty
