We also haven't seen a big problem with the tires on the Combi in the past couple of years. The response we get from our customers is that the design is a good one. They really like the versatility of being able to go 4 directions and the machine frees up space where long loads are being moved. By just looking at the machine you can see the quality and thoughtful design that went into building the Combi.
I can't speak for combi but I have not had this problem on the hubtex in the last 8 years. I wouldn't say it is the wonder truck but for hauling long heavy loads it does the job better than anything else. for long runs that do not require the tighter turning radius we use the baumann 4 wheel unit. I am confident combi also has corrected the problem but cannot be sure.
J, Eddie,
come on, I have seen this problem with these trucks that are less then a year old and less then a year ago... the problem is the design of three wheels and pretending just by increasing ground clearance and big tires.. that you have the wonder machine.. just not true...
I agree. Hubtex and combi both corrected this issue a while back..not sure about other brands etc. Biggest issue we have is the same as combi where a customer wants to save $ and use an aftermarket (softer) tire. They save on tire price but replace them more often.
I had a customer today filling me in on fantuzzi sideloaders they had in the past have leveling cylinder issues. He claimed they replaced them almost monthly. We are adding some hubtex and baumann units but the fleet will still have some fantuzzi's in it under the contract. Anyone else seen these issues?
The rear tire problem was seen on the older models of Combi, but the new ones don't seem to have that problem. The biggest problem we see with the rear tire is when a customer puts on an aftermarket one that wasn't designed for the weight of the machine.
I've seen this on the fantuzzi and some older combi's. Our hubtex had this problem which required a new steer design in the rear improving tire wear by 90%.
Sorry, guys... but the Combi... is not that great of a truck even on pavement...the steering system and the weight on the main tire... when you turn the steer direction, when not moving... we have seen customers lose tires in just a few months with a cost of over $600-800 per tire...just too much.....
roadrat,
combilift and hubtex both have 4 directional units. check out sideloaders dot com for some general info or give me a call 540 604 6847
Combilift offers semi-rough terrain models that are sufficient for most users. Because the units are all wheel drive, they do very well in this type of terrain. We are the only Combilift exclusive dealer in the country, and if you contact us we can go over the specifics with you. combiliftdepottx
response to:JD Burton, The COMBI is a great product, they have come along way from the old Baumans I messed with years ago, seviceabilty on the COMBI is great. The folks that have them really like them, good visibility for the operator and "user friendly" I was wondering ,do they make a rough terrain model simular to the Moffet with the sideways drive?
Combilift is a good lift for ic/outdoor usage. Of course they are a competitor of ours and modeled it after our 3050 model. All in all though they build a good lift for the price and are our biggest competitor lately.
I know this forum was opened to discuss side loaders, but have you checked out Combilift? We are a dealer for them, and have found our customers really like the versitility of these machines. They are able to operate as a "sideloader" and a conventional forklift. Check us out on our website combiliftdepottx.
