Hyster 194A Spec Book

Our shop has the above noted unit that has become a problem from a reliability standpoint and has erratic starting along with intermittent engine dying. It has a Clark Y112 four cyl engine best I can determine.

Any ideas where one might get a service manual (pdf) or parts list?

Thanks in advance,

Nick P

Half old
zeliko- I would highly suggest you start a new thread on your issue if you'd like some responses as your truck has nothing to do with the one in this thread

OOPS- my bad!! Jumped to the lp conclusion as Zenith made an lp system at one time. I personally like lp better then gasoline but if it's working for you as it is then I wouldn't spend the money. Since it is gas I would suggest a fuel additive- Sea Foam- to keep the carb free of deposits. This new gas is different from the gas that was available when the truck was new & if you don't keep fuel flowing thru the carb deposits build up & clog the various ports. I've used all kinds of fuel cleaners & have had the best luck w/Sea Foam.

Mine is gas, not LP. I doubt that I would change it out however, it might prove to be a good option, thanks.

I'll keep an eye out for your pics. As far as the lp system- I'd suggest updating to the impco brand as your style is outdated & parts for it are becoming scarce & expensive. A symptom that yours needs service is that the engine runs better if the choke is partially pulled out.

SWEET! I'll go look now. It is a three wheeled unit. Man, that book would be a great thing to have. I took a couple of hours to finally figure out the cap and rotor along with points and condenser. It has a Zenith carburetor that is giving me fits now. The ignition switch was bad, replaced it too. The carb has a stamping of "Y112F 41S & 12641D". I think I have found the kit for it - looks correct in the pictures.

I'll shoot a couple of pics and send them your way. I know a water pump is in the future too.

TIA,

Nick

Sounds like your lift is a Hyster H20E or H25E depending on the lift capacity- should be a pneumatic tired 3 wheeled forklift- you can send a pic to my email & I'll check if you like. There should be a serial number stamped into the frame on the rear most upper edge on the right side (as seated on the lift). My WAG on a lift this old would be a wiring issue. I still have a paper copy of the parts/service manual should you need any part #'s. Good little lift- still service a few where the company needs a small gas powered lift with an excellent turning radius.

If you got the correct points and capacitor for the distributor, IMHO, those are the hardest parts to order by phone, as a rule. Most every other 'wear part' is either "generic" or may well have been changed out/updated over the years (and that same goes for the distributor, which is why I mentioned the tag on the distributor). This truck could have had a generator rather than an alternator as an example, and the ignition switch can be just as generic, so there would be no reason to expect the same key switch to be the one that the factory put in, although an OEM key switch is still available.
These trucks (and any thing else this old) often gets problems related to grounds failing due to corrosion.or paint including the coil mounting and between the motor and the frame as a cause of 'weird intermittent failures'. (WIFs)

Wow, such a quick reply! Many thanks. De Queen Arkansas, population 5670 has no local parts store for equipment so most of my trial and error of back and forth to the local B 2 B parts store has met with a few difficulties and falures. However just now, I discovered the ignition switch is faulty also.

To answer the reply, yes, new plugs, wires, coil. Points will go back in the AM and the new rotor and cap are due in then too. I'm assuming that about an.025 plug gap and a.020 point gap - if wrong, please advise.

Sad one can't post a picture as with othet blog/message boards. My ol' 3 wheeler does me well when it runs. I have only a tab on the dash that indicates it's a true Hyster and shows a number 194A. The cyl head has Y400A615. I have never found any frame number.

Again, many thanks.

on this old beast there is not likely to be any manual in electronic format, and the y112 engine is a continental motor, not a Clark motor (although there were some Clark forklifts powered by a y112).
We might be able to give you better guesses if you tell us if it is a gasoline or LPG and what system is fitted. a bit more description of what you mean when you say erratic starting" (starting motor engages but engine does not run? starting motor does not engage or turm the motor?)
Have you set the points or done a complete and proper tune up gap new spark plugs and replace condenser as well as points, and spark plug wires, and made sure of the coil case grounding? if it is gasoline, have you replaced the fuel filter?
You should be able to get parts at any real forklift company, if you have a chassis serial number and numbers off the distributor.

Bluetooth is named after the 10th-century Viking king, Harald Bluetooth, who united warring tribes in Denmark and Norway. In 1997, Jim Kardach from Intel gave the name to the technology because of its ability to unite different communication protocols, just as Harald united various tribes.
