I have to say, i have been chasing near the same issue on an 18L. Thanks to the replys i found my culprit. Bad wires on the cam sensor. Gave 1 a little tug and came right in half. Can someone email me the mil code extraction procedure for hyundai, and maybe the code list? Please, would be a huge help in the future.
Again thanks, this is the second time this discussion group has unknowingly has come thru.

Ok I will check those connections out.have ypu had problems with some of these in your area? To be honest this is the only customer we have that has hyundai's.I just got the correct pass word for the software today. Gonna troubleshoot this unit after we get a new diaphragm for the mixer.it back fired so hard last Friday that it blew a hole in it.i have also been told to watch out for a stick g valve but I'm sure that it would back fire while the unit is in motion if that we the case. Also have been told to Inspect the negative wires in the control harness.

I'm not familiar with your units- what make drive train is installed? I know Toyota electronic ignitions can show they're bad by severely retarding the ignition timing while cranking- this may be the case- just a thought.
