Combilift C10000:
Steering problem.

I'm not at all familiar with this brand but I'm having problems with the automatic return that has to do with the left and right front drive wheels not wanting to return to normal mode once you put the four way lever back in neutral. It'll return to normal mode when you manually turn the steering wheel. I have checked all the relays, switches and wiring down to the solenoids on the steering valve and switching valve. I don't know were to go from here. The manual doesn't include any kind of troubleshooting guide for anything when it comes to troubleshooting. Can anyone offer a solution? Thanks for your time.

I believe all three drive motors are in the same circuit. If air was the problem it should effect more than one motor. I am not sure if the C5000 has brake assemblies on each motor but this could be the problem. It could also be a internal motor problem.

Swoop, I am hoping you still are available. I am having an issue with a C5000L. Driving fwd if I go full throttle the steer tire locks up. But if I don't go full throttle it does not have a problem. Maybe air in the hydraulics? But shouldn't the system self bleed?

combi says sometimes the wheels will get out of sync and the way to get them to realign is to put the unit in carousel or side travel mode and turn the steering wheel all the way to the right, then back all the way to the left, then back all the way to the right and that should get them to realign.
So from stop to stop right, left then back right.

If the wheels keep getting misaligned frequently then one of the steer cylinders has bad packing in it and should be repacked or replaced or there may be some linkage worn out or damaged.
Usually the cylinders are the problem though.
There is a slim possibility that one of the wheel change over diverter valves is leaking by internally allowing the wheel to drift out of alignment.

Swoop, I'm having trouble getting the front steer tires to line up. We removed the right cylinder and replaced a hose. When the left tire goes home in either direction the right is not aligned with it. Any idea how to get them aligned again??

well carl, i've been through combi training and we covered pretty much all thier units on the lower end of the scale and none of them had anything like what you speak of.

But as things are between the different models they make i have to make sure. I'm still checking and so far i have found nothing like you speak of dealing with an automatic return to normal steering.

I was kind of thinking the same thing about the automatic return. I can't find anything in the hydraulic circuit or in the electrical circuit that would act as an automatic return for the steering. I'm beginning to think someone is mistaken about it. If you find anything that would differ please let me know and if I find anything, I'll let you know. Thanks for your time.

the wheels will not move from their respective positions until you select the opposite mode with the direction joystick. Just moving it back to neutral just disengages the drive only and it will remain in the mode you select until you select a different mode.

ie: if you are in sideways travel mode it will stay in that mode until you change mode to front rear travel, THEN the wheels will turn and reposition themselves, when they achieve the full steer mode they then lock in place when they trigger the limit sensors for that respective mode. If you have crab steering mode it does the same.

As far as i know none of the combilifts have any sort of 'automatic' return to normal mode. If they did the operator would always have to be re-selecting the previous mode they were in if this kept happening.

Being this is a C10000 let me do some checking and see if i can find anything on it. I could be mistaken.
