Hi, im from a company thats building a cold storage and fish processing facility. The coldstorage will be -20degree and the fish processing side will be very wet.
First question, what is the best electric forklifts for cold storages? Of the Crown, Hyster, Jungheinrich, ect brands, are any stand-out?
Secondly, what is the best electric for a very wet/saltwater application. Has anyone used an electric in this type of situation?

Whoops! Just noticed the original post was from 2007. My best guess says "bet he has made his decision and no longer needs help" or the recession hit & he dropped his plan to do any thing until things improve.

It is difficult to determine at this point what type or make of units is best suited for your needs, a bit more information I believe is essential, like:
What type(s) of forklift(s) have you planned to use in this facility you are building?
Will the unit or units be travelling between the processing operations (sloshing thru the wet & briney water) to & in /out of the freezer?
What type of clear working aisles are planned for in both areas? What is the expected working hours per day per week per month per year? How many lift are you planning for?.
What is the max. load weight handled & l w h. & max top shelf height, over head clearance obstructions (freezer door, dock area, racking tunnels, etc
Average distance traveled one way, anticipated number of loads handled per day or hour or week. Ave. time spent in side the freezer
What other functions will the lifts be required to do - like shipping, receiving, etc.
No doubt this list is not complete but it would give your audience a bettr pic of type of truck that might be best suited.
In my opinion, the briney operation coupled with the in/out of the freezer will cause more (electrical & electronic based) issues than either one alone.
I would look into the Linde R series truck with a heated cab.

1. Don't think you'll find a Still dealer in the US - mainly in Europe & other off shore countries. But no one company makes a substantially superior lift truck than the other.
2. With most freezer & brine application the first thing you need to do is have the equipment ordered from the manufacturer with the proper freezer & corrosion protection. Freezer protection is relatively inexpensive compared to corrosion protection. In my opinion, the Japanese companies are very good at it as in their country they consume a lot of fish & other seafoods.
3. Then the most important issue is a good & regular (based on actual per day usage) planned maintenance program (for lift trucks, battery/charger) performed by specific equipment knowledgeable, trained & experienced personnel vs shade trees - start here by talking to the lift truck dealers you are considering.
4. #3 is the key in determining which product you select & which one is the best "bang" for your buck. Remember the adage "you can pay me now or pay me later" as you go through this process of evaluation.

i have 3 large customers with cold stores and fish prossesing aplications they changed truck manufacturers every time they changed there trucks untill they used stills supplied by us we have supplied stills to our customers 7 years and never lost a customer yet
