Toyota 7FGCU30:
Vibration

I have a 7FGU30 that I service. The challenge is engine vibration just above idle. Unit has the 4Y engine w/ ECS system installed- can't seem to adjust much without the computer compensating. The problem with the vibration is that it's literally shaking the wiring harness to death. I've had multiple service calls due to the wiring braking. I priced a wiring harness today & at $5,500.00 ( yes- that's correct) the customer isn't to happy.

Is there any way to deminish the vibration? The older Toyota's with the 4Y vibrate but usually I can adjust the vibration out- no such luck here- any ideas?- thanks

Toyota has actually made available a fairly comprehensive assortment of replacement connectors for the 7F models with their infamous 4Y engine. I say infamous because the engine is well known for its rabid shaking. You could even say it is Toyota's biggest "mover and shaker".
I am providing a partial listing of the most "failure prone" connectors in this post because not all Toyota parts guys are aware of the availability of these connector kits.
These kits are not what you would call "cheap" as the least expensive one rings up at around $35 USD, but that is a minor blow compared to a complete harness.
I also want to add that Toyota has not yet developed a similar replacement connector group to cover the 8F models (I have already inquired) but that could be forthcoming as the 8F models with 4Y ECS engine can do the shimmy as well as their older sisters when they get mature enough.
The complete list of connectors includes sensors/solenoids for most SAS functions on the 7F models as well, I'm just not going to bother listing all those here. I can provide the whole list if anybody needs, just e-mail me.

Wire harness connector pigtail kits for Toyota 7F models with 4Y engine. Connectors are for the HARNESS, not the actual component or sensor and come with short (around 8 inches) lengths of wire already in the connector body. You also get enough bare metal crimp splices (which you might not want to use, soldering is best) and heat shrinkable tubing for the number of wires featured in each connector for the specific component.

Those units are notorious for having that problem due to heavy emissions and a light aluminum transmision casing. First check ignition system cap ,plugs, wires ect. Then remove the throttle body and clean the throttle plate and housing (they always have lp gum on plate and housing). check timing to mke sure it hasnt been tampered with. Remove the right foot pedal step and you will see a small plate, remove and there will be a **** for idle adjustment. adjust but dont max out it will throw a engine code when trying to start. then the lp regulator has a metal cap on top that can be knocked out. that will give you a little more low idle adjustment. hope fully this will help good luck
