Discussion:
Transmission is stuck to the differential

Not sure what model I have yet, 4 cal gas motor 2 speed manual trans. My transmission input shaft slid out of the clutch disk and into the transmission. I can pull it out and it engages in the trans splines, but it easily slides right back into the trans. I have to pull the trans to get at the back of the input shaft to see what went wrong, but I can't get the trans to come forward out of the differential. I have removed the top cover, all the bolts, lifted, jacked and even tried a ratchet strap to pull straight back. So far I got about a screwdriver blade of space and no more. Is there a trick to get them apart?

There is a bolt which threads into the rear assy, just above the hump for the ring gear which holds the input shaft in place. Yours must have fallen out for the shaft to freely slide forward, disengaging from the clutch assy.

Customers love technology- until they have to pay to fix it!
Maybe someone else will chime in but some of the older standard transmission machines were designed to have that shaft move or be removed to be able to change the clutch without having to take the motor out. That may be what you have and whatever locks that shaft in place has failed. I would call a Toyota dealer and ask for a picture that should show how that shaft is secured.
