Traction Cutoff Fault Code 331

Traction problems, Fault Code 331
Hello guys, i have a big problem with a Crown Forklift, i hope that you can gift me ideas to solve it.
The machine a day cut off traction when the machine was in movement and saved the 331 fault, i revised the service manual and i found that this fault correspond to the Traction encoder, I enter in programing mode and i revised the input A2.21, but the encoder counts normally, i revised the voltage in the wires on the encoder and Access 3, but its normal. Then i got a new encoder and i replaced for made a test, but the problem and fault continue, the machine cut off traction at medium speed and i should turn off and turn on for reactivate the traction, i dismounted the traction motor because i saw the brushes and slip ring in bad condition, i rectified the slip ring and replaced the brushes, but the problem continue, when i was making a revision on the electric wires, i disconnected the back up alarm (Alarm 2) and the machine shows a new fault about the alarm, but i saw that when i disconnect the alarm the machine reduce the traction speed, i think that this is a automatic protection, when the speed is reduced the machine doesn't show the 331 fault and doesn't cut off traction, i made this test with traction with in the air, i was happy because i though that the machine can works in this condition, but when i returned the machine on the floor although the speed was reduced the fault and cut off continued.

I though in the battery and i got a new battery and i made some test, but the problem didn't solve. What do you think? Maybe the Access Control 3?

Thanks for your help, i appreciate it.

Check traction motor brush springs and leads ect have had 331 on high hour trucks weak brush springs or poor connections on brush leads. When I have encountered this problem encoder counts are good , motor will run fine off the floor, but when on the floor it will code 331 under load. Do you have a sister truck available? If so swap the drive motor, only takes half an hour, if that doesn't resolve the problem at least you have eliminated the motor altogether, then swap the access 3 , it may code out for software mismatch when you do this, then go to utilities and copy setups from access 2. Again if this doesn't work you have eliminated any controller issue in a short amount of time.
In my accounts I have over 30 crown reach trucks from 5000 series to 5700 controller issues are rare.
Crown harnesses are generally pretty good as far as the controllers go, mostly plug connection issues if any, clean all connections with plastic safe contact cleaner. Sounds like you have already ruled out the encoder harness. Good luck

Sounds like a faulty controller, to me.

Hi Ionnie, i checked the voltage when the machine is in operation, when the machine is lifting and start the second section the voltage drops to 32v, when the machine is moving the voltage drops to 35v, but although the voltage drops more in lifting in this operation doesn't appear any code. I though that the voltage drop alot, then i got a new battery with a year of use and i made the test but the result was similar and the code continued to appear. I think that the battery not is the problem.

Hi popeye and Crownie the encoder has the part number CR126699, i proved with a new encoder of same type.

i checked these wires from the 4 pins connect to Access 3, all pass a continuity test and i revised the voltage that the manual suggest in some pins, but all is OK.
I saw that when the machine is operated in low speed the code doesn't appear, some times in medium and always in full speed, i thought in a bad conductivity that can be affected for the vibration, then i made the test with the traction wheel in the air but the problem continued.
I checked the count in the A2.21 parameter, but is some complicated detect a mistake in the count, but i have the impression that when the code appear the counts has a jump. When i return with the forklift, i going to try connect directly the encoder to Access 3 for clear the doubt about the wires.
If you have other suggestion, i appreciate it, sorry for my bad english.

check the little wires going to the 4 pin plug are not broken
then double check them
and then check them again
i go out to at least one tech a week who assures me the wires are intact when they are actually broken
and as mentioned check features is set to correct shape encoder
white square or round metal

Was the new traction encoder different than the one you took off? Round not square.

Do a volt drop on battery with truck sitting, and in full raise while monitoring voltage
