Discussion:
mast second stage

For some reason I noticed the second stage of the mast starts in too early. The second stage starts up after the main goes up at varying heights, sometimes as little as 6". Everything seems to work OK but I'm pretty sure thats not right. Should I be concerned? What do you think is causing it?

without a doubt, you need to repack the center lift cylinder, and check the little valve in the base of the rod, be sure to pack the base of the rod as well as the gland nut, what is happening is that oil is seeping up over the piston seal, and unless you run the cylinder to the top of it's stroke, you have oil above the piston, between the piston and the gland nut.
