Discussion:
Best Method to bleed brakes

c500-40. I have read through the forum on brake bleeding. I'm finishing a complete brake job (shoes, wheel cly, both master cyl). I don't have a power bleeder, but I do have a hand vacuum pump. I noticed some discussion on master cyl location (horizontal v vertical) mine are horizontal on each side of the engine.

Can I use a vacuum pump and pull the fluid from the reservoir?

I read about using a "squirt" type oil can with a piece of tube and pushing back to the master cyl.

Does the Master cyl have to be bench bled prior to installation?

Bench bleeding the mc cuts down on the time it takes to bleed the system. I've personally never had luck with the pressure/vacuum bleeders on the market. It's easy enough to bleed by pressing the brake pedal by hand & bleeding the several bleeders in the system.
