Lithium ion batteries

Dear All,

Is any one using lithium ion batteries for counter balance forklifts ?

Lithium ion batteries has some good qualities that will benefit the Forklift operation.

has any one tried this out ? saw some places that offers, but does any one have experience on this topic and appreciate if you could let us know your thoughts.

Thanks in advance,

Lithium ion has several advantages over lead acid technology.

No topping up needed.

Opportunist charging support.

Fully charges in 1 hour.

Spare battery not required for multishift operation so no downtime exchanging a flat battery.

Less energy required for charging.

Lithium Ion is new technology in the forklift world & the signs are very promising that lead acid batteries days look numbered.

Can't really see this taking off, battery type is specific to application and in a forklift the lithium ion battery really doesn't have anything extra to offer a forklift over a lead acid battery.

Granted they have a higher power density but light weight is not an advantage in a conventional truck as the weight has to be made up else where. Plus purchase costs would be huge compared to a lead acid battery pack

Lead acid just ticks to many boxes to make this viable

Not seen or heard of a counterbalance yet with lithium ion batteries, I do know BT / Toyota offer 4 of it's smaller indoor models with a lithium ion package.

I know Jungheinrich also offer a PPT with lithium ion.

I have heard from a good source that a forklift manufacturer is testing lithium ion on a reach truck BUT there is a compromise between the size of the lithium ion part inside the battery & the extra weight that has to be placed in the bottom of battery tank to maintain the trucks stability & capacity at height.
