Hyster "194A D" forklift

We just bought this old lift and are having issues with the propane regulator freezing up, and now the lift overheating after idling just a couple minutes. Uses a Beam "60" regulator. I think it is a Ford flat 4 or some have suggested it is a Continental engine?
Any help diagnosing the issue would be appreciated!

A full model & serial number will be needed to judge if parts availability will be an issue. If there's no data plate, the serial number will be stamped into the frame on the left side of the engine compartment (as seated on the machine).

Engine sounds bad, are parts hard to come by for rebuild if necessary?

usually if the regulator is freezing up it is due to lack of coolant going through it.

it could be a stopped up cooling system or no circulation as kevin suggested.

Low coolant or no water pump not circulating coolant. Coolant line blocked maybe. Thermostat stuck closed. Just a few basic ones for you
