Discussion:
buying a new or used machine??

We are a small business with 3 pneumatic machines. One 3000 lb. Nissan that was purchased new in 89 and has less than 3200 hours. The other 2 are very ol;d Komatus's Bioth were purchsed used. The Fg15 was a dually and I converted it to single wheels. Late 60's model. It is still working great. The FG 10 is a late 60's vintage and does not have a lot of hours. It is crude by today's standards About 2 months ago the tranny would not go in reverse. It is at a dealer and they say the clutch pak is gone and it could be costly. We are still waiting for parts availability and prices. Seesm like it is time to replace. I am not up to date on any of the current machines. Not too many good dealers in our area other than Cat, Toy and Nissan. The Komatsu's have Nissan engines and they seem bulletproof. I am scared of anything that uses a Mitsu or Mazda engine. I am sure the Toy will be out of our budget range. We have a TCM quote but I know very little about them. Any good recommendations? What to stay away from? WE need 2500 to 3000 lbs., pneumatic and would like a triple mast but could live with 2 stage if the price were right. You can see we keep our equipment a long time. I welcome any offers from dealers within 2000 miles of central Canada.

THanks: Marvin

Well, the Nissan will way outlast the komatsu.
They liscence the nissan engine etc., and make it in korea (or wherever) and in my experience, it's just not the same.

I have no idea why you'd be scared of the mazda's, they are the toughest little engines I know of.

The short story is, if you are not going to use the unit a ton everyday, then the cheaper brands will do just fine.

So I'd suggest tcm, hyundai, daewoo etc.

All the big brands will sell you a superior unit, but @ 188 hours/year, you'd never see the difference.
