Discussion:
fault code P22 trans shifts into neutral

Having an intermittent issue where the transmisssion will neutralize while driving. fault P22 is displayed. Have to shift into neutral, then back to forward to regain travel. Anyone have info on the P22 fault? Thanks.

Kevin most likely scenerio that happened was binding in pivot and not letting the inching rod release and gave the operator the sense that the transmission had internal problem. I usually find this to happen in severe duty trucks where the trans overheat light comes on due to truck being used as a forkdozer or operater that likes to ride the inching pedal. Trying to get unit to move they probably started actuating the directional lever slowly (THE) or hard shifted and produced the code. As units transmission warms up the binding increases. I have found that reassembly after clean out using food grade grease ( the thick tan kind ) on shaft eliminates black gum build up. Be sure to install new o-rings on shaft during reassembly. Some models were equipped with grease zerts on pivot shaft.

What i used to do all day now takes me all day to do.
One thing i just found the other day relating to this code is the inching actuator shaft(on the control valve) being bound, took it apart and cleaned it so the shaft swivels freely in the bracket and applied some anti seize, operator said code hasnt come back since i did this

Same as the F16 code on the Plat 2 series. I call this "Turtle Hand Enigma" or THE. Usually operators will drive up and ask while holding the lever and say "hey whats this mean?" Waaaay more often this is set by operator than actual problem. Operators will in the beginning complain of unit dropping out of drive and they might see a brief flash of the P22. When this occurs is when i start checking into things further. An application of silicone type grease to connector female before connection to switch helps to reduce this if unit is in a very bumpy enviroment. This being a P code on the LO1 / LO2 series and is related to VCM, the P22 will go away when cause is rectified.

P22 is a faulty directional shift lever assy. Quick easy fix, just clean & check all your connections while you have the covers off.

We see this alot when operators push hard on the directional shift or slap it into reverse,or the rest their hand on the shifter pushing down on it and not realizing it.
Replace the shifter and clear the code in this manner.

1. Key on (don't start)
2. Count a slow 3 count- 1 Mississippi,2 Mississippi,etc.
3. Push accelerator pedal all the way down and back up 5 times within 5 seconds. Pedal up.
4. Slow 7 count ,foot off pedal, pedal up (count same as above)
5. Push down pedal for 10 count. Hour meter should show and then code, flashing back and forth. ! light will start flashing on dash, then code will clear. Key off, then start.
It may take a few times to do this, take your time and don't get in a rush. Some on here will tell you to just disconnect the battery,it won't help.

BTW-Nice bike, I have a 02 Victory TCD and a 07 Roadstar Midnight Silverado 1700 myself,
just never enough time to ride them.

Funerals in Spain typically occur within 24 to 48 hours of death, whereas in other European countries they wait one or more weeks. This rapid timeframe is a cultural norm grown from the past need to manage the warm climate without modern embalming.
