I'm having a battle of wits with this forklift and it's painfully apparent that I'm under gunned. I'm also not that familiar with lp fuel systems.
It has a Nissan H-20 engine that will start right up, and idle just fine, but surges anytime you step on the gas pedal. It doesn't matter whether the engine is warmed up or not.
It has an Impco ca125 air valve, a VFF30 fuel lock, a model J regulator, and a Koshida pneumatic governor. The coolant level is ok, I've put a kit in the fuel lock in order to get a new filter in it. And I've cleaned out the air valve. I've been able to find just enough info on the Impco parts to become somewhat familiar with how they work, but I can not find a darn thing on that Koshida governor.
Can anyone tell me what to look for next?

I can send you a sheet that shows the adjusting procedure which envolves setting the no load and under load speed and how to stabilize hunting. You will have to give a email or fax #.

When I first asked about this problem I started over in the troubleshooting section, but my post got garbled up in the posting and I wasn't getting a response. It looked more likely that iI would get an answer over here so I reposted it. Since then I'm now getting answers in both. That'll teach me.
EdwardT got me to readjusting the governor, and after tightening t up about a full turn, the surging stopped , but now it seems that my top end rpm's are too high. I haven't come up with a good compromise yet.

How about taking the carb off and checking the throttle plate in the governor to make sure it is secure and under tension from the spring?
Edward, it appears that both the coil spring and the endless spring are still functioning.

yes they can get out of adjustment. I agree with andypandy the gov spring may be the most likely the root of your problem.
AndyPandy, first off, thanks for your reply.
I ran out and took the cover off the governor and all appears to be intact. Everything seems to move freely, although this is being judged by a very untrained eye.
Do these things simply "get out of adjustment"? Or is there something else I should investigate?

It sounds like a fault with the governor. These wear and the spring can break. If you take the front plate off which is held on with two smooth headed screws, you should be able to see if all the workings are ok.
