UK-Whos next?

Its all getting extremely gloomy in our market place and I'm wondering whos next with the jobs axe. Pretty much all the big players seem to be shedding staff, wheres it all going to end?

i think its going back to the time where quality is the major factor in the decision to buy, people have tried to buy the cheapest but now they have realized that value means a lot, better than price only...its value, value and value

yorkshire, United Kingdom as an ex barlow employee the writing was on the wall 10 years ago, there was such an arrogance among managment that barlow knew best, there attitude was that they were privelaged to deal with barlow ,barlow didnt need them they need barlow, they started to loose customers to toyota, linde etc so they started to charge there existing customers over inflated prices for damage etc, to reach there targets, customers told them to get lost so they charged the ones that were left even more to reach there golden targets, it became a viscous circle. they then centralised things which again lost customers.customers want local support not faceless call centres. another problem was most of the middle managment seemed to always promote up the ranks relatives, friends and the occasional baby sitter you could be the biggest idiot in the world if you had a relative as a manager you got up the tree, you could write a book about it and there stupidity,

any chance of next weeks winning lottery numbers chaps, you all seem to be able to predict the future. a lot of these big companies have been asking for trouble for years, they have been giving forklifts away to gain market share , then relying on ripping off customers with over the top damage bills, trying to make up revenue, the forklift trade as a whole needs to wake up and smell the coffee. the way the trade is run is a shambles, dump all the stupid aim contracts, only body that wins is the customer, sell the customer a truck for a fair price, service and repair it for a fair price and stop ripping the customer off, if only the customers of the uk knew the half of the ripp off greed culture the forklift trade has become.

everbody is waiting to see who go'se first. It will be a middle dealer the rest have to much to offer.Even
briggs if yale realy wont to get a foot hold in the UK then now is the time. There will be some good deals done in the next 12 month Maybe a company from Asia willcome in and open it all up Or the market will split into two. first will be themanufactures who will rent new trucks direct there will be five or six , these will be Linde, Toyota, Hyster,junghienrich,A-let nissan and Mistubishi or komatsu. if they drop their dealers. Clark , Samuk,Doosan and others will go. Second there will be a second hand and smaller service market. This will be coverd by family owned companies who wont deal in new trucks. Most companies will drop their sales rep's who cost up to 40K per year

Will Barloworld still wish to trade in the UK, or will they shrink back to mainland Europe and South Africa? The same applies to Briggs and America. Impact should have accepted the offer from Toyota, they only have their own egos to blame. I think these three firms are the ones in pole position to disappear from the UK market, But which one first?

Why Would Naaco allow barlow to fall. They are by far the superior company compared to Yale dealerships in britian. I never see any Yale vans or salemen, it would take a lot of invesment to take Yale directly into the uk and i cant see that happening in this climate can you?

Everyone is being hit at the moment Toyota 70 job losses 6% price increase, Still uk have one saleman covering the whole of east anglia, Linde making loads of job cuts and doing silly deals linde will be sold when the climate gets back to normal just like finnings making it look good before they sell and look whats happening to them.
Rushlift are in the brown stuff and wont be here long. Impact are struggling with the nissan product.

You watch in a years time Barloworld, Junghienrich and toyota will still be here going strong so will linde but in what state.

Barloworld are world wide selling the Hyster product and not doing a bad job in this climate. They are backed by south african investors not by a bank.

It will be interesting to read all this back in a year to see who is here and who isnt.

I think NAACO will allow Barlow to fall, then just use the Yale brand directly in the UK. As for Briggs, it appears that sadly they are going down soon. If I worked there I'd resign, cause I don't think they'll be paying any redundancy out. Good luck to all
