Discussion:
Crank no start/ no spark

I have a 2010 Yale 50vx. LP, mazda 2.2 with coil on plug ignition. I was told it just didn't start one day. the display lights up but doesn't read anything. It cranks but does not have spark. all fuses and relays are good. i was able to hook up jpro to it, no codes. it reads engine speed on jpro when cranking. with a spark plug removed and grounded you can tell that its getting fuel while cranking. i inspected the cam sensor, everything looks good there. the crank and came sensors have got 12 volts and ground. the coils have 12 volts. with a power probe and back probing spoons, the black and white wires on the coil breaks continuity with ground while cranking.Any thoughts or directions? I have looked all over the forums, there are several with a mazda 2.2 no spark but never the answer.

thanks!

So my issue with crank no start ended up being a bad engine ecm. We then changed the dash as well to get it reading correctly. The dash did have to be programmed in this case.
thanks

Ok thank you. I will see what happens once the new dash comes in.

The only thing that l have seen is if the vcm is bad then that would have to be programed also the ecm should be plug and play l have sent dashes out for repair were they installed a new chip what happens is you turn the key on and it said wait and the vcm down loads the software into the dash.

I know you said you called the dealer for the dash but if you install a new dash the vcm will automatically write to the dash no need to program.

Thanks for the reply. The dash turns on but is just the backlight. It reads out no information.i had checked and swapped all relays and fuses on the pdm. i then took it apart just to make sure everything was good. everything looked good. im waiting on the dealer to install a new dash and program it to see what that does. From what i can tell, the dash sends a can signal to the vsm and engine ecm to start and run.

Steven,

The dash should always come on weather engine starts or not. If all relays and fuses are good, suspect failed VSM. I would swap some relays first. You may need to check the fuse connections to be sure nothing is broke. Replacing a PDM due to this problem. Fuse 3 had only one side of the connection making contact. The VSM rarely fails. Remove lower dash cover and VSM will be on the right side. See if you smell anything burnt. If so, you will need to get a dealer to install as it needs to be programmed. Good Luck.

The hard to do we do right away. The impossible just takes a little longer.
