Discussion:
No start

Hello,

Have a cat

Unit spins. No start. No spark. Customer states unit just died. I have no sparks or from coil. Swapped a coil, same complaint: the issue I am having is the back of the distributor for the pickup has a 2 wire plug. No input to it. Just hanging there. What I'm wondering is that the design of this unit or has the plug been snagged and I can't find it? Don't have access to a schematic as this is my only caterpillar in my fleet.

Good battery, fuses, etc. haven't seen a distributor pickup without a power source:

Edit. How are the crank teeth supposed to look?

The teeth only stick out about 1/8 from the ring but none are smaller or taller they should all be the same size. If that is not the case and the sensor is far away replace the ring and the sensor.

Some teeth are close. Some are far away because of the wear down the teeth. Haven't put a feeler in there yet but it's consistent around the crank

Wish I could send a picture of it. It's definitely wild how knocked down these teeth are

I never seen that but if the crank sensor is not close to the teeth you will not get spark also if you replace the ring with the teeth make sure you you put it back in the same position or it will fire wrong a believe there is a white line on the ring.

Hello,

Ok that makes more sense now on this distributor. No spark from the coil. The crank teeth on the pulley are horrible, knocked down and not square like they should be

First there is no pick up coil that distributor has a plug connector but there is no wire the distributor is only used to distribute the spark to the plugs as it spins it has no bearing on spark. The front of the engine has the teeth on the side there is a crank sensor as the engine spins it creates and ac analog signals it then is sent to the ecm then the coil is fired to the distributor and to the plugs if you have no spark make sure your power relay is good and look at the crank sensor if all is good it is possible the spectrem ecm is the problem or wiring

The black box flight recorder was invented by Australian scientist David Warren in the mid-1950s. While initially met with indifference in Australia, his invention gained international recognition, particularly in the UK, and is now a mandatory piece of safety equipment on all commercial aircraft.
