Discussion:
Lack of power going uphill

Unit runs fine on flat level but when going up a ramp it struggles, it won't move forward as if it has lack of power. When adding more then 20 in-hg of vacuum to the diaphragm on the distributor, unit goes up the ramp with no issues. I also inspected the vacuum lines, they look good but I don't know if I'm overthinking but does the diaphragm need to be replaced or I need to look somewhere else? I've been in the forklift industry over a year still learning. Also not that familiar with Toyota fork lifts, is there any other test that can be done to confirm if the diaphragm is bad or what's the proper vacuum?

I have also had these models do this when the governor has got weak, put a tach on it and see if the rpms die off under load when you deadhead the hyds. Try to adjust governor and see if it gets better. From my experience if it changes it wont be 100 percent so you will need to install a new governor. This is of course after you have verified your inching pedal cable adjustment is correct. I hope this helps. Good luck.

If you think it really has something to do with vacuum advance see if it moves properly (be careful not to bend anything) inside the distributor. Sometimes those bearings get rusty. Most times on these machines i have found something affecting the balance hose hooked up to the back of the vaporizer. Unhook the hose hooked up to the bottom of the back plate of the vaporizer and see if power increases. Check timing setting as well. ron_k is also correct about all his points. if timing advance makes it go up a ramp don't worry about the inching cable right now. About intake crud? I once had one of these intakes carboned up to the point of having 3/4 of the airflow gone.

How many hrs? Unit may have intake issues with build up of carbon. Also ignition parts replaced? Next is fuel. Vaporizer drained? Has to be hot. Plug on lower right corner on bottom. If it hasn't been maintained replace vaporizer. Also any inline fuel filter. There's been a lot of dirty propane coming thru. Next is inch pedal adjustment. Look at cable action ontop of trans. Make sure it's all the way released. And slack in cable. Like 1/8 inch. If not adjust it to have this. One way to check proper fuel is to sit on unit, start engine and hold tilt lever either way on. Then step accelerator pedal down fully. If your rpm increases to nearly full rpm your fuel system and ignition should be good. Check also that your mixer is tight on manifold and all 3 gaskets are good. Usually every 5000 hrs need repair to ensure a good seal.
