Discussion:
Machine will not run unless choked down.

I have a Nissan CPJ01A15PV that will only run if you place your hand over the air horn and cover approximately 80% of the horn. If you remove your hand it dies. I have checked the distributor vacuum advance with a manual hand vacuum pump. It doesn't leak down which leads me to believe that the diaphragm is good. I have removed the vacuum fuel lock off and replaced it with an electric one. Still no change. The LP converter has been replaced twice. Same result. The carburetor/mixer has been replaced. I can't find any source of a vacuum leak. There is a switch of some type that has a vacuum hose going to it and wires connected to it. I don't know what that switch does but I put the vacuum pump on it and a volt meter and all indications show that it is working and has no torn diaphragm in it. I am at a loss at this point. I would truly appreciate it if somebody could tell me what is wrong with this machine.

Didn't think of that one yet. Glad you found it.

You said you have replaced the mixer but is it working correctly? Looking into the barrel while turning the engine, it should pulsate.

Have you measured engine vacuum at an idle? Or engine exhaust back pressure? Engine timing with a timing light or verified by timing marks? Ive seen restricted exhaust and incorrect timing cause this problem in the past.

I have taken the vacuum lock-off off of it and replaced it with an electric one to try to eliminate that possibility. That didn't change anything.

Does it look like that vacuum switch goes directly to manifold ? then just jump that out and see what happens ? maybe it is defective ?

One component not mentioned is the lock off. If unit has vacuum lock off, it can be causing this issue. Will it run if you remove the air filter?

Yes I did. Everything looks good on compression. Also did cylinder leak-down test. No problems there either.

Have you done a compression test? Low compression can cause the engine to not draw enough fuel to run until choked.
