Discussion:
Starting Issues

Initially there was no start, no click, nothing. I unhooked the neutral safety switch and spliced them together, coming from the ignition key module. Now it cranks, but will not fire. It is like no spark. Plenty of propane, charged battery. This is like a 1977 model, no complicated electronics. Looking for a wiring diagram. Any suggestions or help would be most appreciated.

Thanks again, After tracing wires and hoses to no avail. I noticed the switch next to the key had three differnt positions I had thought it was for the lights. So I tried them and in the upper position the forker fired up and ran fine. The person I bought it from didn't give me any instructions and trying to find manual is impossible. :) Gish Thanks again and helping me with my wild goose chase. I did learn a lot about my forklisft.

Is it a impco fuel LP system? Vacuum shut off or electric solenoid? Vac LP shut off usually is a plugged filter or bad vac line back to mixer. Check for a inline filter at the over pressure valve block. Some had it hidden. Loosen main LP line from tank at vac valve shut off to check for liquid fuel there. I Throw away and replace the top round filter/vac fuel shut off. If it has a Electric solenoid that powers up with key and make sure it stays on during the start cycle. Make sure you see 12 volts constantly or no fuel.
Vaporizer full of oil/tar? Diaphragms have pin holes, high pressure valve bad? Check to make sure also your fuel line from vaporizer to mixer isn't rotten at one end. Vacuum is key to get fuel out of the vaporizer to mixer/carb. How many hrs? Poor vacuum could be a plugged intake, gaskets, leaky valves. At least you know it run on spray.

Thank You for your reply. I checked for spark at the spark plug and I got spark. I hooked up the neutral switch and one of the connections may have been loose, now it cranks fine, but no start. I shot some starter fluid in the air cleaner channel and the forklift fired up for a couple of seconds. So now I am trying to figure out why it is not getting propane. I have pressed the button on the vaporizer, no effect. Tomorrow I am going to unhook the tank and check the connections, what should I check if the tank hookup is not the issue?

Check fuses under dash upper right corner. Or by battery for corrosion. Should be only 4. If good then check distributor for power with key on. If power at 2 wires is present + and neg 12 volts. and no spark still. Possibly the control module or ignitor failed. Cap and rotor fine. Check the plug connector going into distributor
Black wire breaks at siliconed green plug from vibration. Have you pulled plug wire and watched for spark jump while cranking? If no Power then check battery leads should be 2 wires to starter and or alternator. Look for blown fuse link on that line.
Key switch maybe another possibility. Cranks fine but had them short out as well And no spark. All light symbols work on dash. May have to check harness plug under dash for corrosion also.
