Hyster J1.80XMT - Water ingress in AC drive motors

Hello, I have been to a few Hyster J1.80XMT trucks recently that are all suffering with water ingress into the AC drive motors and throwing up codes. A strip down of the motor, clean out the rust and replace the encoder is fixing the fault - but I cannot see how or where this water is getting into the motors. Would like to be able to prevent ingress to avoid future issues.

Any ideas? Common issue on these machines?

Cheers,

Dan

Hello SMcG, thanks for your reply. We eventually found the ingress was coming in via the wiring grommet in the top of the motor. We have made attempts to seal this up as best as possible.

Regarding code 6, I have this listed as "Request traction function while forward and reverse switches are opened." Code 7 is "Accelerator input voltage too high on power up."

Code 6 normally comes up when you have left it in drive, got off the seat and then get back on and attempt to drive without resetting direction lever into neutral first.

Cheers,

Dan

Hi Dan, We have the very same problem, Remove strip and clean the motor, replace the encoder bearing, the only other thing that we picked up when checking the motors was the cut out fitted inside the windings was faulty, just got a new cut out and fitted it external on with araldite.
refitted and job done.
We have a new fault this morning code 6 high throttle voltage? Any ideas on this one.
