Discussion:
SMH!!!!! Bought out LPM/Intrupa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just off the hott wire from all of your sales reps. SMH has aquirred all of IMCH (LPM&Intrupa). How is this gonna affect the Large LPM Elite dealers? Will this put all of us on a level playing field? Will all the small independent forklift mom & pops
still be able to buy at the same rate OEM's can?

Hey Steve, I worked with you years ago at Intrupa.
I hope everything goes well for all the folks at LPM/Intrupa, but having been part of a few acquisitions (on both sides) over the years, I think it would be a good idea to start planning for a worst-case scenario. It's real tough be the acquired. Maybe everything will go well, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

Good Luck.

You know, the whole reason these aftermarket companies exist is because OEMs sell exclusively to dealers.

What would happen if an OEM would just open it up to everyone. Sell parts to anyone at list price, order online via credit card, look up parts diagrams, etc. Would anyone use an aftermarket supplier?

That's the way it is with some of these aerial lift companies like Genie and even Tennant. Lately I've even received a discount from some of these types of companies so I hardly ever look for aftermarket sources--after all, if I go OE the part fits, quality is there, price is OK.

What do you think?

Replying to FLdude oon the TVH Clark relationship.
From what I have heard TVH assued that when they purchased Clark's parts business in Europe they would all so get the USA parts information as well but that is not true.
TVH only got the information for Europe but yes some of the parts are common with USA.
This is one of those cases where the phrase "You know what happens when you assume........."

The million dollar question!
My guess....
- most OEMs are run by manufacturing types that really don't understand the parts business. The parts business is just a number for them on their financial statement.
- to date, Intrupa and SMH have stayed fairly low on the radar. Most of the "big" guys at the OEMs knew about their aftermarket competition but really didn't understand what they were all about.

The only ones who appear to have it figured out is MCFA with Rapidparts. They are home grown, organic, only sell to their dealers, etc, etc.

Now that TVH is high on the radar, one must wonder if some of the upper management has woken to the fact that they helped create this TVH global competitor.

I think it's sort of like GM waking up and realizing Toyota is kicking their butt.

Just so everyone is on the same page here.
The Toyota, Starlift program is run by SMH and was previously fun by Intrupa.
The Nissan, Duralift program is run by both Nissan and LPM.
The Komatsu, K-lift programs is run by SMH.
The Hyster/Yale, Unisource/Premeir program is run by SMH and Hyster/Yale.
The Raymond, Liftpartners program is run by SMH.
The Crown program which is very small right now is run by Crown.
Hard to beleive that competeing OEM's would just hand over their aftermarket programs to one of the biggest aftermarket parts distributors. The reason I say this is because they sell parts to work on all brands of forklifts. Why would a OEM want to have a partner that is all so competeing against them.

i've worked here for 13 years and the most important thing i've learned is that i work for my customers more than i work for the "company". i will continue to do so wherever or for who ever i work. i'm sure that each entity has their strong points. hopefully these can be combined to service our customers in a way that is beneficial to both. as far as "setting on the fence"? sometimes you have go out in the field to see if the fence needs to be replaced or just mended.

I've never had the need for a single source. If I did, I'd buy all my parts from the OEM I represent. Buying from one additional forklift vendor isn't exactly rocket science. The one-stop shopping arguments sounds a lot like what my OEMs tell me.

As far as price increases, think about it; why wouldn't they raise prices? What would stop them? There's no one left to compete against from an aftermarket perspective.

Since GW brought up Clark, one thing that is sure to get better is TVH/SMH/Intrupa's availability of Clark parts. TVH bought all the old inventory from Clark Germany and my understanding is that they have parts records and prints for every Clark part, including Germany and USA built trucks. That part is sweet.
