Hey Guys,
I have a customer with a Cat P5000, sn AT3502562. This code E27 just popped up. Any ideas? Machine still runs good.

I have a Cat p5000 and have spent the last year repairing broken wires in wiring harness and am now told I need a new harness. Has this been an ongoing problem with this unit and if so, has the new harness been improved? Any feedback on this would be great.
Good info JP. I put the suspect coil into the sister machine that I borrowed the good coil from and ended up with a dead cylinder.
thats great to hear forkliftt
glad it worked out for you
and on that defective coil?
double check the plug and the wires going to the plug that connects to the coil pack, i've seen wire breakage there that will fool you into replacing a coil when thats not actually the problem. Generally if you pull on the wires at the plug you can tell if thier is one broken because it will start pulling out and in most cases will come right out of the plug or at least break right where it goes into it.
But i hope replacing the coil fixes it ;o)
good job!
Update
I had a new service call today, Nissan with K21engine. E27 code, dead miss. Had to work two spark plugs out as suggested. Cleared code with pedal dance. Worked like a champ. Ended up with a defective coil on #1. Borrowed a coil from sister machine till new one arrives. Great help here is what I get. Thanks all!!
Agree with swoop , usually just loosen alittle, douse with penetrating oil and move to the next plug, work your way back to first plug. Work it like a tap in and out hopefully you can knock the carbon off, get the plug out without thread damage sometimes it can't be helped.
loosen them , then squirt some oil in the threads before trying to remove them all the way.
if you try and take them out before applying oil it will tear out the threads in the head.
K. I some of the new style plugs in stock. Any tricks to getting the old ones out?
there is a service bulletin on this problem
it can run you around in circles chasing ghosts and replacing parts unnecessarily
first thing to try is remove and inspect spark plugs
if the truck has alot of hours on it try changing spark plugs
if the gap is wider than.038 (.096mm) then this could trigger the code.
code E27 is triggered because the time the ecm expects a signal from either one of those sensors is longer than expected. yes there could be a wiring issue but they do suggest checking and changing the spark plugs first on the long list of problems to check.
"The Pedal Dance"
Turn the ignition switch on with accel. pedal released, after 3 seconds fully depress the accel pedal 5 times within 5 seconds(end in released position). After 7 seconds(timing is very important...1 mississippi 2 mississippi etc....) press and hold down accel pedal for approximately 10 seconds(again timing) until the hour meter starts blinking, release pedal and push down and hold again for 10 seconds) hour meter should be on with no codes showing, shut key off and test to see if codes cleared.
yea with the pedal dance,do a search in here and it should come up,this truck might also have an OBD2 style plug like in a car, under the cup holder can plug a reader into it and clear codes and read codes thru it
Sweet. Anyway to clear codes without a handset?
This engine will run on 1 cylinder. If it will not a good tune up is in order. When pulling coil wire a code will show up that will require clearing however. A random misfire can be found if you let each cylinder run for a few moments.
Check connecions. The engine maybe stumble abit if coil or plug you can unplug each coil to see if change in engine rpm sometimes very sutle change. Pull plugs and inspect
Most the time if crank sensor is bad you will have no start or hard start.
Thanks guys,
Any way to narrow this down?
90% of the time when you have an e27 code its related to ignition components, plugs, coils, connection, wiring etc.
Not always does the crank sensor cause E27 , it could he a bad connection or even a bad plug can cause this code.
