I have a experience with intermittent failure of the brakes. When driving in cold environment the oil around brake disks gets so thick that it can not drain away from the brake piston (the piston that presses on the friction discs). It builds up a thick film of oil. After the machine has been idle for approximately 30 sec, you can press the pedal to the floor because now the oil has sunk down and the brake piston gets a longer stroke. When you have pumped the pedal one or two times the brakes seems to be ok until the next time With Cold enviroment in combination with ideling for 30 sec or more.
The soloution for this problem was new brake pistons with draining slots and a thinner oil.

On a pneumatic machine, we had a problem w/ hydraulic fluid filling the differential. I think the problem was the quad rings on the brake pistons? The problem would resolve for a while, then start filling again. Any thoughts?

headspinning. dont forget the updated brake piston with new seals fitted. the old one over stroked and allowed oil past the seal and into the final drive.

roc109

also check the discs and plates for signs of warping. warped discs will push the pistons back so on first press the pedal will touch the footplate, second press the truck will stop on the spot

i'm talking about the brake valve, located on the leftside of the truck, cust stated the pedal dropped to the floor as if it had a bad master cylinder.these trucks don't have a master cylinder.it seems that the problem is intermittent

I dont know that particular truck, we've performed brake jobs on IC trucks w/ wet brakes. If you shoot me several photos to my address, of the brake area, and under the floor board, I'll see if its similar.
Typically the friction discs ware and burn the plates. The plates and discs are replaced, along w/ the quad rings ect.
