Discussion:
Starter Gone Crazy

Today I walked in to a no starting lift. Replaced the 30amp starter fuse and the starter immediately starter working on its own (ignition key in the off position). It only stops when the fuse is removed, the solenoid is disconnected or the relay is removed. I disconnected the ignition switch and even with the switch disconnected the starter will run when the fuse is on. I put a new starter thinking that might be the problem but no, its doing the exact same thing. I traced the solenoid wire and didn't find anything wrong!

Any Ideas?

There has to be a pos. short to the starter solenoid. I have seen this happen with defective solenoids. I would start at the solenoid wire and see if there is voltage present with the key off.
