Discussion:
Sanderson SB55 TC No Drive

Hi I recently purchased a Sanderson SB55 TC, I changed the hydraulic oil and now it has no drive. Does the transmission work of hydraulic oil or automatic fluid? If so what fluid does it take? Any help would be hugely appreciated Cheers.

Hi Chuck , I am assuming it is an SB55 TC ( Torque Convertor). The hydraulics is not connected in any way to the transmission so it looks like you have 2 different issues. Firstly if the hydraulics are slow to respond I would check the hydraulic oil level and indeed main filter. Some models had what they call a PFD (Preferential Flow Divider) located just below the Dan Foss steering unit. This diverts hyd fluid to either steering or hydraulics depending on demand. It is a straight forward job to check the main hydraulic pump should you wish to ask etc.
As for the transmission. assuming as I said it is an automatic transmission this could also be fairly easily checked.
I did not see your initial message as I rarely log on but if you reply I will keep a look out etc.

Just in front of the engine where the transmission joins, on the bell-housing right on the bottom there is a small plate with 4 bolts. Take it off you will see a blanking plug on the end of a pipe. Screw your pressure gauge into it..That is the main torque pressure from the pump..but if you have lost complete drive in both directions my money would be on the mounting plate the toque converter joins onto the engine flywheeel.. they tend to completely shear and it a very staright forward in replacing..Just roll the engine out and fit a new mounting plate.

Pete, I wonder if I could pick your brain?
We're using an old Sanderson SB55 TC for a self build and the right, front brake has stuck on. Any ideas? It won't move at all.
Many thanks,
Kirsteen
