this may sound random, but the first step I would do would be to insure the ground between the engine and frame was good, un screw the bolts and clean off any crud on the lugs and reconnect them. this may not fix anything, but it will eliminate the grounds as a possible concern.
I would also note that the behaviour you describe of the gauges; "the temp gauge goes to hot the oil gauge read low and charging gauge read low", may be the normal start up of this machine, the dash gauges swing all the way one way and then back as part of the start-up
