actually changing out a pot and calibrating it 'learning it' is not that hard to do.
The trick is to have the machine in 'learn mode' before you begin. The reason being is that after you change out the pot you will have a very hard time getting it to go into learn mode if it is not already there so having it there before you begin helps considerably.
To access the maintenance menu's it requires pressing the horn button and the right shift button at the same time while turning on the key. This will bring you to a password menu, the default password is CAT1 or CAT2. CAT1 being the operators menu and CAT2 being the maintenance menu. These passwords may be changed at any time so if these do not gain you access then you will have to find out the password or get a cat tech with the DCAT software to reset the system for you.
Once you gain access to the maintenance menu you can use the dpad on the control handle to scroll through the menu and find 'learn' , then go to learn controls and press horn button. Once you start the 'learn mode' process it just requires you to move the handle full forward, full reverse and then recenter. The truck will beep when finished and then you exit out of the menu. The display will guide you through what to do if it is working correctly.

NOTE: if you have not done this before DO NOT attempt this without assistance:
There is also a test mode (A04) you can set it in to monitor the voltage of the pot so you can set it to the correct voltage.
The correct voltage for the travel pot is 2.0 - 3.0v (optimal setting would be 2.5v)
There is no pot for the lift/lower as it is controlled by switching and a manual valve.

IF you are not sure about anything you're doing in these menus DO NOT attempt to change ANY settings or you will cause the truck to run incorrectly or not at all and cause yourself more problems and in worst case scenario could cause the truck to make unexpected movements that could be very dangerous.
I suggest you have someone that knows these proceedures present with you the first time.
