Don't think they work like that in the UK. They pay a percentage on top of your salary into a pension fund(not sure how that works with you being from overseas). And yes salary in GBP. If traffic is clear usually take just over an hour but unlikely as you have to go through one of busiest road networks in the UK at Birmingham. I 'd think 1.5 hrs at best
I'm 3 to 4 hrs away to the north don't know any other engineers that far down.
