I have come across this problem before, the timing gears are incorrectly set.
Remove he engine front cover and reset using the timing marks on the gears.
The timing set with the vacuum source disconnected.
The vacuum sorce is usualy fixed at the bottom of the throttle body cloe to the idle up device. But the carb could have been changed at some point.
