We have a problem with our forklift and the service guys can't seem to can't find it, so I thought I'd ask here for a second opinion.

There is a delay when trying to put it into forward or reverse. Sometimes it takes a few seconds before it engages and then starts to move. Other times it takes longer, 10- 20 seconds of selecting forward - pause, neutral - pause, forward again, before it starts to move.

Yesterday was one of the longer times.. I tried forward, nothing, so I tried reverse, again nothing. I revved it and tried again, but nothing.

I turned it off, then restarted it and tried Forward, but nothing. Tried Reverse and it went in reverse straight away. Then it worked as it should for an hour or so. Then I turned it off to do other work and went back to it after 30 minutes or so and it worked fine again.

But still every now and then it has this delay of a 5 - 10 seconds after you put it into gear that it actually engages and moves.

With out any technical knowledge on how this system works, I'm guessing a shift solenoid is not activating as it should?? If it were a mechanical system, surely it would have this kind of problem?

Anyone have any ideas?
