Discussion:
Rattle in neutral

Hey there,

New to me forklift, 1975 C500 Y80.

Runs good, works good. The question I have, is there is a (fairly loud sometimes) rattle when in neutral. Worse when cold, or if the engine rpm drops (picking up a load for example). Can't hear it at all in forward or rev.

Is that a normal noise for a 46 year old machine? The transmission shifts nice and smooth, and works well.

Thanks.

Fact of the week
Foundling hatches are safe, anonymous drop-off points for unwanted infants, allowing parents in crisis a way to surrender a baby safely without fear of punishment, ensuring the child is rescued and cared for. The concept started in the 12th century, was abandoned in the late 19th century, then reintroduced in 1952. It has since been adopted in many countries.
