As bigGglittestar stated there has to be a pressure regulator some where between the tank and carb. Some times two (priamry & secondary). Very often the symptoms you have described is caused by a bad diaphram (cracked, etc) inside this regulator or the needle valve is not seating properly due to excess tar build up or both.

Has to have one, straight tank pressure is way too much for any fuel system.
is it possible there is not a reg on it?...........i swear, there is nothing between the fuel tank and the engine, except what looks like an lpg carb of some sort on the engine.......

Also check your point gap in the distributor. ( sometimes the key is left on and it burns the points) I would just do a ignition and propane tune up. Parts are reasonably priced. Don't know about availability in Alaska.

If the LP regulator is not frosting up, its probably the ignition coil. When it starts to misfire touch the side of the coil. If it is too hot to keep your finger on for more than a few seconds replace it.
is the water circulating? when it starts to run rough, if you touch the LPG regulator, is it cold or hot to the touch?
