Interesting debate going on here. Interestingly several individualspn here are knocking Diesel engines and performance in automotive vehicles. There are many diesel cars on the road now that are achieving 68mpg to 70mpg which is incredible. Also the performance of Diesel engines is exceptional - just look at the torque curves... Diesel engines remain brilliant and it is taxation greed that is hindering Diesel engines not emissions.

BP, Shell and Chevron seem to be one the "big" oil companies & they are well entrenched in North America & US but the ownership is elsewhere.
Once upon a time diesel fuel was signicantly less expensive than gasoline fuel in the US. Today it is now more expesnive than gasoline. This is partly due to higher costs to formulate diesel fuel to comply with ever increasing EPA regulations. Thereby, increasing the cost of ownership thru increased fuel costs & added engine system maintence.

Diesel engine prices go up because the emission regulations and the new technology needed to fulfill them. Particulate filters, adblue-systems etc. cost money.
It looks like electric trucks will grow their share of the market as diesel engines get more complex and expensive, both to buy and service.

I have some Kubota powered lifts here and the price might have been higher but the costs to operate off set that. If I had my way everything here would be kubota diesel powered.

Forkingabout,

Well noted. I just remember reading some of the articles where Volkswagen was planning on coming out with diesel engines that were eclipsing anything here in North America by at least double the mileage.
Here it seems that the big oil companies dictate the technology. I believe we are light years behind you guys when it comes to petrol turbo and hybrid's.

Europe is planning on cracking down on diesel, they are blamed for pollution & health problems.

The Euro 6 emissions equipment being forced on to automotive diesel engines will make long term ownership prospects a wallet emptying gamble once the car is out of manufactures warranty.

As for mileage I have news for you, Europe has gone high tech with smaller fuel efficient petrol turbo & also hybrid's, the days of the diesel dinosaur engine option if you want good MPG for automotive fitment are numbered.

Auto makers want to get rid of them?? Maybe here in North America, but then only because of the oil companies. Europe seems to very happy with diesel and they are getting a heck of a lot more mileage out of them than anything here in North America. North America just won't let them bring the technology here because it would hurt the big oil companies.

Diesel option costing $5000 more?
News Flash : Auto makers want to eliminate Diesel engines as costs to run them are higher than gasoline.
So good luck trying to get more money for diesel power engines!
