Discussion:
Linde H16D 391 cam belt

Just had a Linde H16D 391 come in with a snapped cam belt.
Does anyone know if these always do damage when the belt breaks and has anyone got the procedure for timing one up.
Cheers,

My customer has been very lucky. Timed it up, put a belt on it and it runs sweet. Water pump was leaking though so just put one on. If it would have been my truck it would have blown its self to bits!! Thanks for your help guys!!

Fix it right!!!
Hi danny you may find you could have some bent valves if belt has snapped, how many hours has it done. Try to fit a belt and you will see if it will run. The timing marks for the crank are seen through the hole on the bell housing you will see a pin on the bellhousing and a mark on the flywheel, the camshaft has a tdc mark on it, the injection gear has a slot in it and a hole in the casing behind the gear at about five-ten past use a drill bit in the hole 6mm springs to mind. Also replace belt adjuster.

You may get it started but fine tuning to the injection pump can only be done with laptop,

The correct timing tool is available from VW dealers if you give them a engine number, this consists of a pin for the inj pump and a cam locking tool, but you may still need the laptop to time pump.

hope this helps
