Discussion:
hunting steering in any position

i have a 560-opc30tt. the steering hunts rapidly back and forth within about an inch or so.it has no codes, the steering has very little end play. the steer encoder seems to be ok as i can turn the steering slow it does not studder or jump at all. the problem seems to speed up or stop after a few seconds, im shotting in the dark and thinking the steer encoder in the steer motor is bad.
any other posibilities?

thanks

Hello Gents,

This is awful late, but I want to say something about this problem.
I work on EASi OPC30's and ACR OPC's 5400's.

Last summer, I did a diagnosis and repair for a G2 event code.
Pulled the Steer Motor Assembly out, and found that the small diameter Spur Gear (attached to the output shaft of Steer Motor) was worn out.
Installed a New Gear, and the problem was solved.

what mode are you entering?
mode 1 or mode2? the operator code will not get you into the maintenance menus
as far as the proxy switch is it turning on and off correctly when it passes over the trip plate?

i replaced the steer encoder still the same. i don't see a steer stop sensor i only have and encoder and a proxy switch.. the shaking in showing on the display so im guessing the encoder is giving good feed back info to the truck.. i did the wire shake test no changes.
and i go into dash and see no steer learn is there something im missing?

sounds to me like the steer stop sensor is out of adjustment and its hunting for center.
check the encoder and make sure its not loose, check the stop sensor and bracket and make sure its not loose or out of adjustment.
then go in the system and run a relearn on steering and see if that takes care of it.

Fact of the week
In 1923, French tennis player René Lacoste was promised a crocodile leather suitcase by his captain if he won his next match. He lost the match but won the nickname "the crocodile" which he had sown onto his tennis attire. Ten years later he launched the first polo shirt and Lacoste, the first brand to feature a logo on its clothing.
