Hello again! I humbly ask for your assistance once again....I asked you guys earlier in help identifying my 1986 Forklift. We knew we had to replace the master brake cylinder and water pump. That has been completed. The forklift would start immediately, then die after about 10 seconds. It sounded great. It was determined that the lift was out of LP, so we went and had it filled. It now will not start. A real forklift mechanic came and checked all electronic parts, regulator, vacuum lines, dis. cap, wires, fuses, etc etc. We smell the LP, Still will not start. The Lift guy gave up. It wants to start, just doesn't....Clue, please????
Also, just dawned on me that I am probably in the wrong forum. I will repost there.

Appreciate that. Actually, I need a forklift just this size, so I am having it fixed for $4000. I will onlt need the thing about 4 hours max a month, so hopefully will last my lifetime, anyway. And yes, I made every mistake in the book! Some leddond in life are very expensive.
Not worth putting in 5K of any currency to fix a truck of that age.
there must be s/hand engines available for a fraction of that cost.
Otherwise walk away and treat is as a lesson learned
Best to deal with a dealer in future and let him take the risk
If it is any help to you we have all been caught sometime so don't be too hard on yourselves.
Good luck in the future.
The bearings had already been spun. Was a calamity of errors. I hate forklifts.
Why not have the oil pump checked ? just cos it was sat for 4yrs doesnt mean the pump was faulty.
In fairness, there is now a question as to if the oil pump was ever working...It had set for 4 years. Just a hard hard lesson learned by us. I thought since it ran, it was ok. I was mistaken, and now have even more respect for you guys, and what you do.
On that note id be asking the first so called forklift engineer to pay the bill since he was the one who drained the oil, and for what reaseon did he drain the oil from the engine when he had attended a none starter ?????
I am toast. Tampa Forklift just called. Spun Bearings. New engine. $5000. Can't do it.
How much are they paying for blood these days ??????
No, I am sick. Tampa Forklift is currently at this moment hauling it to their shop. The engine has seized up, and I am now poorer then ever :(
Apparently the 1st mechanic drained the oil, and did not replace it. It was not caught (no oil) for several days, but was started periodically. Tampa Forklift is going under the assumption that that hurt the inside. Now they are going to break it into. I assume the price will be very high.
Well Then
What was the problem or has your mechanic gone into the roofing business ?????
We are roofers by trade...I made the mechanic a deal. He wouldn't do roofing, if we didn't do forklift mechanics. Sounds reasonable to me.
Welllllllll.... so far, governor is totally froze up, starter is dragging, and guy is laughing over some crap on the motor he has never seen......I now see what you guys were talking about, the other forklift mechanic.
I promise you all. We listened to ALL of you! We tried everything that all of you suggested! And we did have a forklift mechanic here last Saturday for 5+ hours. I am STILL not convinced the Forklift is not possessed.......Will post to all as soon as the Tampa Forklift Service Tech gets here.....
I think you should have listened to Power Lifter
Sometimes the simple things get overlooked.
The only good thing I can say is that we have pretty much replaced all the LP parts. My husband is referring to all of your posts, and he is so sick of this he can't stand it.
lol AHHH the wonderful world of forklifts......try working on them everyday. My 2 cents. Sometimes the mechanical check valve in the propane tank will lock on. Disconnect, Bleed line ( NO Smoking) Connect coupler fully. You need to turn the valve slowly open. A converter and vaporizer are the same thing depending which side of the pond you live
Okay, Tampa Forklift is coming out today. It has been determined that we were mistaking the converter for the vaporizer (?). $%^&*($%^&*(
I hate forklifts...
You have stated that gas is going into regulator but not coming out of vaporizer, these two items are one in the same, I ***-ume that you have a impco fuel system and if so the fuel lock-off is either electric or vacuum operated so if you have fuel coming out of this device prior to fuel regulator( it will have two hose for coolant and one for fuel supply to carb) than that item should be replaced(fairly inexpesive item) Note: fuel output from regulator will not be a liquid and pressure will be below 7 p.s.i or should be so it is very small amount of pressure. If it is a aisan system pressures should be same to carb, and would be electronically controlled and sould have I.d on parts just like an Impco system would have. Really hate that you are having so much trouble with this unit, truly alot of variables on this problem however if you call a local Toyota dealer they should be able to provide you with a resolution and would be worth the cost of svc call, Good Luck
Absolutely! We are so sick of this stupid thing! It is alot of stress for something we need maybe 2 hours a month.
michelle, since you seem to be having trouble getting your forklift going, I would call your local Toyota dealer Monday morning and ask them to send out a "real forklift mechanic". I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but an experienced field service tech person will be able to diagnose what's wrong in a couple minutes and have it fixed in an hour or so, if that's a fuel problem.
