Discussion:
hard starting

Turn the key, it just cranks and cranks, let off of key, it starts. I have heard that Toyota had problems with the Chevy propane 4.3s. Checked ignition switch ,good, replaced oil switch, leaking. It does start quickly on start fluid. Any ideas, yes the spark is a little weak under cranking, jumpers to coil or ground to alternator do nothing.

Toyota had told techs to add an extra ground cable and that work on the ones I had this issue on.

I had the same problem, cranks and cranks with no start until you let off the key. Checked for spark while cranking over and none to be found. Installed a different ignition module and fires up right away

Check the voltage at the coil while running then check again while cranking. Compare this reading to the volts at the starter while cranking. If -between the 3 readings- the lowest voltage is at the coil while cranking, then test the voltage at the start terminal on the ignition switch while cranking. If this voltage is the same as at the coil- install temp. jumper between the ign. & batt. terminals on the ign. switch & check how she starts. If she starts right up then your ignition switch is bad.

If the ignition switch- ign. terminal & the ign. coil don't have the same voltage while cranking- & the ign. switch has more voltage- then there is in fact a wiring issue which will have to be found.

runs fine after start, the real kicker here is while cranking if you let off the key it starts, every time, I had heard that this (7FGCU45) had a lot of issues with the propane system, more so the electrical control circuits.Voltage drops, coils not putting out good spark so on ????? Thanks for any input

If it starts on either then I would suspect the lp regulator. Once started on either- how does it run?
