I have replaced the fuel filter, with new gaskets, and bleed out the system. when the engine is running the primer ball is sucked in. is it possible this was install backwards at one time.is there a check valve in the system? sometimes the engine will start but stalls out after a few seconds. I would think it is *** air in somewhere, I have checked out the filter a few times and have no leaks ??

Just a heads up. I found the primer bulb was the problem the check valve inside must have been broken. When I removed it and pluged the suction side and pumped it. the bulb sounded like it was *** air. I replace it and the truck starts and run great now. Just wanted to say thanks for everyones great input.
I removed the suction and return lines from the tank and put them into a gallon jug. The primer bulb still collaped but I saw air bubbles coming from the return line. I must be *** air from somewhere. Should the bulb *** in during normal running?
When looking for possible causes, don't rule out mischief.
I don't know what your situation is, but I have seen instances where paper and other trash have been put into fuel tanks.
This stuff can/will plug up the suction pipe if it can get to it.
Thanks gentlmen....I will check for a restriction from the tank to the bulb..and will respone with the results.
Yes as posted earlier it sounds like you have a plugged/restricted fuel line from the tank to the bulb....
