Discussion:
fuel cell power

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with Plug Power fuel cell powered forklifts, would like to know if they are as well received by operators as the company has been saying.

Rick, thanks for the response. Is your experience recent (last six months)? The reason I ask is that the company, by their own admission, had reliability problems last year, but they say they are solved and that they haven't had any of those problems for the last 4-6 months.

My generalized opinion of a lot of companies is that they have their own internal agenda and publicity programs already set firmly in place when they begin to woo buyers and do not really want to deviate from their script by answering a lot of impromptu questions. They would rather point out that they have brochures and such to answer your concerns.
From the reported aloofness indicated by roibeard, I would say Plug Power fits my opinion fairly well.

Thanks for the response. I know that only recently have they tried to sell into Europe, the just established a JV with Air Liquide a couple months ago and had their first sale (to IKEA i think) last month, so if you are still interested you might try again. That doesn't excuse their lack of followup previously though. They should have had the courtesy to let you know that they couldn't sell to you at that time.

I don't have an answer to that but I can tell you I tried for 6 months to contact this company a couple of years ago to discuss the use of fuel cells with several of my customers and found it impossible to get to speak to anyone or to return my calls/requests.
